are you ready for the ryd?

The new shoei RYD replaces the discontinued Qwest for 2017. The Shoei RYD is also known as the Shoei RF-SR in the USA. But what is the difference between between the RYD and the NXR? Why should you choose one over the other?

It was expected that the RYD sat neatly below the NXR and GT-Air, but the Shoei RYD is quite expensive, making the NXR a highly credible alternative.

When we say highly credible, we mean it represents better value for money plus a higher specification in almost every area. In credit to the RYD, it does use the same AIM shell construction, and same visor as the NXR. However, the quality of finish in the RYD is not the same high standard delivered by the NXR. The positive feel and operation of the vents on the NXR feel like it is a higher quality helmet. The NXR also has more design to the shell, offering more aerodynamics and a lighter weight. Our conclusion is that the RYD appears to be a little confused, it should be in the Shoei range as an entry level helmet, but the pricing is far from entry level.

We believe the NXR offers a higher spec and better value for money, so would recommend the NXR for sports and everyday use, or the GT-Air for touring.
